The Midwest Central Railroad brings the excitement of rail travel 100 years ago to life behind authentic steam powered trains. Join us in our enjoyable and educationally-rich endeavors for a future full of steam in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
Our mission is to preserve and commemorate railway heritage for the educational benefit and enjoyment for current and future generations. We aim to accomplish this through live action of our engines and rolling stock as well as educational displays and tours of our operation. You can become a volunteer and share our enjoyment of history.

The Midwest Central Railroad, along with the Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Association, have made the difficult decision not to hold Midwest Haunted Rails, Thrashers House of Terror, Great Pumpkin Train, and North Pole Express events for 2020.
The various events are faced with guidelines for six-foot social distancing, protocols for sanitizing, and cleaning, which creates difficult means for producing these events.
We all wish that we could have provided another great Halloween and Christmas Season for all of us this year. The safety of all our volunteers and visitors is still a top priority. We will all get the chance to offer these events in 2021.

For several months, the Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Board of Directors and staff have been working tirelessly to address challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Reunion has been faced with guidelines for six-foot social distancing, protocols for sanitizing and cleaning, greater financial implications for the Association, and the loss of key volunteers, coordinators, and some of our civic groups.
In addition, we have considered the overall health and safety of our entire Old Threshers family, the Mount Pleasant community, residents of Henry County and all surrounding counties. Indeed, the health implications of holding the Reunion could have a far-reaching impact.
The Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Board of Directors met on Tuesday, June 23 to decide the fate of the 2020 Old Threshers Reunion on September 3 - 7. At that meeting, the Old Threshers Board of Directors voted to cancel the 2020 Old Threshers Reunion.
We will now shift our direction to working on the Old Threshers Reunion to be held on September 2 - 6, 2021.
The Board of Directors, staff, and many volunteers wish that we could have provided another great Old Threshers Reunion for all of us this year. We will all get the chance to gather again at the 2021 Old Threshers Reunion September 2 - 6.

The Midwest Central Railroad is committed to the health and safety of our volunteers and community. With no certainty of when this pandemic will end and when life will resume to normal, it is with regret that we are announcing the cancellation of all scheduled work days and open meetings until further notice.
We do not have any information about future work days and meetings at this time. None of us has any certainty about what the future holds. We will continue to monitor State and Federal regulations as they change daily and act accordingly under those regulations. Until we know more and until we can make more informed decisions, please stay safe, stay home and stay connected to those you love and care for.
